NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Championship Finals
Ok, so tonight's Detroit Pistons vs. Boston Celtics game ISN'T a grill off; but I think that would be just as fun to watch; so maybe after the game in the parking lot guys?
I have two similar issues looking at tonights game that CBS web writer Mike Freeman asks. First, what the hell is wrong with Chauncey Billups. Billups injured his hamstring in Detroit's series with the Orlando Magic; and Billups has admitted that he will continue to experience pain probably as long as Detroit remains in the playoffs.
"Hurt or not, I still have to play better and fight through it," Billups said Sunday. "At this juncture of the season, you can't sit out," Billups said. "I'm one of the main leaders of the team."
I understand the committment to team the competitiveness etc etc...This All-Star point guard was 1-for-6 for six points with four assists and two turnovers in Saturday's game- The Celtics FIRST road win in the playoffs . When is it your job as a leader to realize your injured and by being on the floor playing you are NOT helping your team?
Backup point guard Rodney Stuckey has been consistant and beneficial for Detroit as the back up point guard for Billups. The Pistons have demonstrated faith in Stuckey by subbing him in and out this playoff series FOR Chauncey; but certainly not as explosive as Billups at his best. Chauncey even knows he has a capable teammate:
"We've got a young guy, Stuckey, who is playing great and we've got to find ways to keep him playing well. But I know I have to play good for us to win."
This here is the ego finally exposed, if Billups was a the leader and team player he says he is; he would sit and let Stuckey take the floor for the Pistons. Of course this will never happen, and that angers me.
Second, Detroit prior to this season were known as a staunch defensive team. Why then did the Pistons let Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce combine for 47 points in Game 3? Kevin Garnett is averaging 24 points, Ray Allen 16, and Paul Pierce 20 points in first three games of this series alone. Detroit was aware before this series started that these three players are the foundation of the team as well as the offensive leaders; so why is Detroit not containing at least one of "The Big Three" if they're such a 'Defense First' team? maybe that was just a regular season thing....
For tonight, after losing on their home court, the Pistons need a win. Richard Hamilton, that means you have to score a ton of points for Detroit to tie this series; Good Night, and Good Luck.
To end WONDERFUL heartfelt story; Houston Rockets NBA All- Star Center Yao Ming led a moment of silence at the NASCAR Coca Cola 600 yesterday to pay tribute to his country. Yao came from China to play in the NBA ; a place that has been ravaged by that terrible earthquake.
Just making you a little more appreciative on this Memorial Day Eve!
