18th round draft pick for the Baltimore Ravens; University of Delaware ( My old stomping grounds, Go Hens!) quarterback Joe Flacco was not able to participate in the Ravens 4 day minicamp because of some obscure rule:
"Flacco will miss a four-day passing camp at the end of May and will not return to Ravens headquarters until after May 30, the last day of exams at the University of Delaware.
The agreement between the NFL and the NCAA, which came with the encouragement of the American Football Coaches Association, limits a player to one minicamp with a pro team while his school is still in session.Flacco, who attended the Ravens' mandatory minicamp last weekend, can't participate in team activities this month, even though he has already withdrawn from school.
He would have missed next week's rookie minicamp, but the Ravens have rescheduled those workouts for next month. "
Flacco's Agent says he is a smart kid and will catch up quickly despite having to stay on the sidelines for the month of may. Buisness is still getting done; Flacco sat down with the Ravens this week to formalize his contract. This behooves Flacco and the Ravens in the long run; getting him to training camp on time come late summer, and allowing him to focus entirely on football. Flacco will be challenging Kyle Boller ( joke!) and former Heisman Trophy Winner Troy Smith for the starting position of quarterback.
