Navigating the Bermuda Triangle that is the Blogosphere

So Many Link's So Little Time......

Morning Glories- Coming (Back) To America

NBA Finals Eastern Conference Championship
Boston Celtics 89, Detroit Pistons 81
Boston is now set to play the LA Lakers in the NBA Championships. Last night the big three Kevin Garnett (16points) ,Paul Pierce( 27 points), and Ray Allen had 17 to lead the Celtics past Detroit. Teammates Boston point guard Rajon Rondo scored 11 points and Kendrick Perkins added seven points and seven rebounds. The Celtics have played to seven games in every series in the playoffs; no team having faced that situation has gone on win the Championships.
"It's kind of surreal,'' Garnett said. "Probably hasn't even hit me yet because we haven't slept in about four days, going on five days now. Going to the finals, I'm just hoping to get some sleep.''

"We're emotionally drained,'' Garnett said.

MLB Games Of Note
LA Dodgers 9, New York Mets 5
Former Yankees manager Joe Torre's Dodgers have been looking for a turnaround, and last night may be the beginnings of one. Dodgers catcher Russell Martin went 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs; beyond impressive, and the Dodgers need it. LA snapped a four-game losing streak last nights win was the second in eight outings.

"Everybody did his part in that inning. We've got to do it more often. It was a good win," Martin said. "Hopefully, it gets us back on track."

Martin boosted some much needed Dodger offense; they've scored only 12 runs in their past seven games. Dodgers pitcher Chan Ho Park is now 2-1 from the mound for LA.

Philadelphia Phillies 12, Florida Marlins 3
The fightin' Phil's are in FIRST PLACE in the NL East! Oh what a feeling. Stealing the lead a half game ahead of the Marlins. Phils have been hitting them out of the park, literally; they've had 60 runs in five games. Now last night was a big confidence booster for Phil's pitcher Brett Myers, who is 3-6 not having a win from the mound in 6 weeks. Last night despite ominous threats of booing and relief pitchers warming up as early as the first inning, Myers was able to block it all out; he only allowed three runs and six hits playing a full eight innings. Most importantly for his confidence, he struck out a season-high 11.

"It's definitely easier to pitch with a lead, but I'm struggling," Myers said. "I was out there to get my stuff right."

Now for the big hitters of broad street; Chase Utley hit his major league-leading 18th homer. Ryan Howard and Chris Coste each had three-run shots.
"That little bit of a grin was back for Brett," Coste said. "You can see that look in a guy's eyes when they know they're doing well."
"It's ridiculous," Myers said. "I feel bad for anybody that has to pitch against us right now."

Yesterday as I was blogging about Serena's exit from the French Open; little did I know her sister would be leaving the tournament the same day as well. For the second time in history the once-dominant Williams sisters had lost on the same day at a Grand Slam. Ironically four years ago at this same tournament was the first time. Six-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams; at 27 years old was observed to have entered the tournament in slightly less than prime form.

"Yeah, just wasn't a good day for our family today, but we always learn and get more determined after our loss," said Venus. "We'll just come back harder."

Unlike her sister Serena; who was taken out by frequent errors, Venus was simply out played and by Pennetta.

"I got on the court and thinking, 'Hey, I can win this match,'" the 26th seed Pennetta said

Venus has yet to win a WTA title this year, but is already looking towards the All England Club and Wimbelton. Venus has earned four titles since 2002 on the grass, including last year's crown.

"I just want to move on and be positive and be an adult about it. (But) I never get used to losing. I don't think anyone gets used to losing. And if they do, then maybe it's time to retire."

Roger Clemens Continues His Desire To Ruin His Own Life And Stain His Already Filthy Name

Roger Clemens is now heading back to court claiming that former trainer Brian McNamee; who injected him with steroids and then told everyone, inflicted 'extreme emotional distress' on The Rocket and was 'malicious and grossly negligent' by saying Clemens used steroids and was a big, fat, liar for denying it- and Clemens was all of those things....so what is legal about suing over this?

"McNamee's false accusations have accomplished their purpose of destroying Clemens' good reputation and making him the subject of scorn and ridicule throughout Texas," said the papers, submitted to the U.S. District Court in Houston.

If sleeping with fifteen year old country music singers gives who a good reputation - then I am SHOCKED that he is the subject of scorn and ridicule in Texas....oh wait. Take that back; he slept with a fifteen year old country music singer; so why ISN'T he considered citizen of the year or something?

Speaking of washed up pill popping mistress Mindy Mcreedy;Congress has demanded she be questioned in the ongoing Clemens steroid use allegations suit. HA! apparently two FBI agents have already begun preening into the 1991-2006 relationship between the two.

"She's relevant because she spent 15 years in a relationship with Roger Clemens and probably knows a lot about Roger's associates and activities," said Richard Emery, one of McNamee's attorneys. "She may have leads to people Roger associated with that the FBI wants to follow. She could lead to a lot of probative information."

But the real kicker, if you can handle it; is that Roger himself has summoned Mindy as a WITNESS for the defamation suit he has filed. Your honor, my under aged mistress did not see me inject anything during the time in question, therefore I did not ever do steroids- it has been misremembered.

When is the Law and Order episode based on this thing coming out?

Big Brown Gaurntees Victory: Feels Sorry For Future Oppnents in Belmont

Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. called it ' a foregone conclusion' when asked about Big Brown's ability to win the Belmont Stakes to become the first horse in thirty years to capture the Triple Crown.

Which was a nice way of saying, ' ya'll suck and we're gonna win'. I admire his tact though.

The 1 1/2 mile Belmont Stakes is June 7th; and Big Brown is now back on the track training after taking three days to heal a splintered right front hoof, which according to Hoof specialist Ian McKinlay, is continuing to heal nicely. Big Brown took some practice laps on the Belmont track Wednesday and Thursday.

"Ian McKinlay said Big Brown's injury is 70 to 80 percent healed, adding, 'the longer we can treat it the better he gets.'"

McKinlay will cement on Big Brown's now famous glue adhesive hooves the horse races in Monday after Big Brown's final scheduled Belmont practice.

"'It's coming slowly but surely,'" Dutrow said. 'We're just playing it safe, knowing that we just got to get one more breeze in before the Belmont. And we're right on target as far as I'm concerned.'"

I believe that's code for; Big Brown does not need to practice, he's that good.

Since Big Brown has practically annointed champion; the media is in denial and looking to stir up some contraversy heading into the Belmont in the way of a conspiracy theory;

"When asked if he thought any of Big Brown's rivals might be out to hinder his colt's attempt rather than trying to win, he said: 'I just can't imagine that anybody would go do something stupid just to keep us from winning the race.' When it was mentioned some still believe that's what caused Smarty Jones to lose the Belmont,"

Horse racing conspiracy theories; ya know....just to keep things interesting...

Morning Glories- It's A Holy Day For Women Everywhere: The Sex And The City Movie Open's- Boyfriends Around The Country Wince

LA Lakers 100, San Antonio Spurs 92

Los Angeles is the first team to punch a ticket to the big kahuna, the NBA Championship Finals. Kobe Bryant is the sole reason this team can beat anyone at the moment ( I fear for the contender coming from the east) the newly crowned MVP is hot hot hot on the court. Last night Kobe put in 39 points; 17 of them in the fourth quarter to overcome a 17 point deficit for the Lakers. He is the true leader of this team, but also an outstanding player OF A TEAM.
The awesome playoff play by his teammates Lamar Odom who contributed 13pts and 8 rebounds and Pau Gasol; who had 12 last night with a career high 19 rebounds, five assists, and an amazing 4 blocked shots: made this team look supremely dominant against not just anyone, the Spurs; the DEFENDING national champs for goodness sakes!

"My heart's still pumping, that adrenaline is still running from the game," said Lamar Odom, . "Maybe when I sit down and have something to eat, I'll realize what just happened. "We came out here, played our game, and won. It's satisfying, but one more step."

For the Spurs; it was the Lakers stifling of Manu Ginobili that truly hurt their offense, he was held to 3 for 9. Tony Parker scored 23 points and Duncan had 19 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists for the Spurs.

"Just got to gear it up again to go to next year," Duncan said. "Love what we had this year. We just weren't good enough through stretches."

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich admitted that it was the Lakers defense, thus the lack of the usually outstanding Spurs offense that was the deal breaker.

"I thought we did a fine job," he said. "We just didn't muster the offense, for a variety of reasons. The fact that we didn't come through offensively is a disappointment, but part of that is a credit to the Lakers. (The Spurs) just played a team that was better. That's why the Lakers won. The better team won. You get a seven-game series, you win four games, you're the best team."

The Lakers are 12-3 in the playoffs and continue with a beyond impressive postseason home court advantage, surely to be a real advantage in the Championship. LA is 8-0 at Staples Center in playoff games; and they haven't lost in their own arena two months. They have won 14 consecutive home games and 21 of their last 24 postseason games at home.

The Lakers now wait for their future opponent; and the Eastern Conference to announce it's champion tonight.

MLB Game of Note

This game had absolutely nothing to do with the fact the Giants winning on a ninth inning score. This game had everything to do with Diamondback pitcher and future MLB hall of famer 44 yr old Randy 'The Big Unit' Johnson. The Unit put in seven innings for the D'Backs; leaving them with a 3-2 lead, allowing 2 runs, 6 hits, and 1 walk. Last night Randy Johnson retired the first nine he faced, five by strikeouts- Officially even with Roger Clemens for 2nd in the MLB record books with a career 4,672 career strike outs. He has struck out an amazing 19 batters in his past 13 innings. Marking such an achievement, even Giants fans felt appreciative; Johnson received a standing ovation as he left the field.
The Unit, ever humble; shrugged off this historic career achievement in true selfless fashion- but also hinted that despite his age, he will continue to throw strikes and climb further into MLB history:
"It's kind of a moot point," Johnson said. "To win a ball game is the most important thing. To go out there and pitch a good ball game, and if we would have won, that would have been the big thing because we need a win right now."

"I believe that I'm getting to where I'm effective out there," he said. "I mean, I'm not washed up or anything like that."

NHL Note
Sad reports from Shippagan New Brunswick; as first round pick for the Vancuver Canucks Luc Bourdon was killed Thursday. Bourdon was drafted in 2005, selected 10th overall. A promising defensemen, In 27 games with the Canucks, he scored twice and had no assists. Luc was killed when his motorcycle struck a tractor-trailer in a crash near his hometown. He was 21.

The French Open
Womens Bracket
A shocking upset for Williams, a three time French Open Champion; who played erratically at the next and missed seven break point opportunities throughout the match. This is Serena's earliest exit from Roland Garros since 1999- and the only former champion playing in this years draw, ranked 5th in the world.

The 27-year-old Srebotnick earned the biggest victory of her career. She has only one win over a player ranked higher than Serena beating No. 4 Amelie Mauresmo in 2005.

Srebotinick felt the pressure of an impending huge upset win with the score 5-4; her nerves squandering 2 of three match points. The third time was a charm for the 24th ranked Slovenian; when Serena took a forehand wide, committing her 25th unforced error; giving Srebotinick the win.

The lady- like 26 yr old Serena, met Srebotnik at the net with a gracious grin and handshake.

Afternoon Delight: Hardcourts, Clay Courts...Same Difference

NBA News
Detroit Pistons leading scorer in the Eastern Conference Championship series, Richard Hamilton, may be out for Friday's Game 6. Hamilton suffered a strained right elbow in last night's Game 5, and his status for Friday will be confirmed pending an evaluation today. [Houston Chronicle]

The NBA will be imposing fines next season for players who try to pull any theatrics during games.NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson confirmed the new policy Wednesday night saying: "What was clearly expressed to the committee is that we would begin imposing fines next season for the most egregious type of flops. When players are taking a dive, for lack of a better term." exact amounts and specifics are yet to be announced. [ESPN]
The French Open Men's Bracket
Rodger Federer def. Albert Montanes 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-0, 6-4.
Rafael Nadal def. Nicolas Devilder 6-4, 6-0, 6-1.
Rodger Federer is the world's number one, Rafael Nadal the three time defending French Open Champion; but both the two highest seeds in the tournament struggled to make their way into the third round. More importantly, the two most handsome men in the tournament made their way into the third round for our viewing pleasure.

NFL Update: Jason Taylor Still Dancing

Around the topic on whether or not he will in fact remain a Miami Dolphin. The Palm Beach Post got Taylor on the record about Dolphins new head coach Tony Sparano's emphatic NO regarding Jason participating in spring camps or preseason team endeavors.

"Who said that?" Taylor said of Sparano's comments, which were dissected and discussed in media reports from coast to coast. "I've been in L.A. and so far removed from it. I'll deal with that later."

Rumors remain that Taylor has not bonded nor truly spoken to coach or new VP Bill Parcels and Jason did not reveal anything to clarify his standing with the two as of May 28th.
"I'm going to head back home today for the first time in three months. ... We'll worry about football in the near future," Taylor said. "I'm under contract with the Dolphins ... football doesn't start until July,"

So at this point it looks as though Taylor will be at preseason in July regardless of Parcels or Sparano, and whether the three of them settle their differences or not. Jason is a the only 2008 Pro Bowl selection from the Dolphins, as well as the captain and believes emphatically that he still has a place on the team.

"(My teammates have) been supportive throughout. I've never heard a bad word from my teammates - they're the best," Taylor said. "I'm going to go home tonight, sleep in my own bed and let tomorrow happen."

Eli Manning and his new Bride formally Abby McGrew stepped out for the 'Sex and The City' premiere, walking the red carpet. I'm not a fan at all of her dress, and I know she's a pretty girl; but that picture is scary....

Morning Glories- With Emphasis On Brevity!

NHL Stanley Cup Championship

With backs to the wall; Pittsburgh will not go quietly into the good night, nabbing their first Championship series win. 20 year old captain Sidney Crosby dominated the game, scoring two goals; ending the Penguins series scoreless streak.

"I wanted to make sure personally that I had a good game," Crosby said. "You want to be quiet, but you want to have a sense of confidence in the room. ... You want to make sure you lead by example."

Said teammate Maxim Talbot: "Crosby was huge for us, and I'm not talking about his two goals. It was his energy. You look at the guy, and it's amazing what he does. He is such a warrior and true leader."

NBA Playoffs Eastern Series Championship

Maybe it was the Almighty presence of Bill Belichick- looking as disgruntled as ever- but all three of Bostons big stars ; Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen; Finally made offensive harmony. Garnett lead the team with 33, Allen with a playoff high 29, and Pierce finished with 16.

"We knew the significance of this game," said Garnett "You don't win this game, you put basically yourself in a corner. ... They're experienced, and they've been in a lot of pressure situations. Now it's up to us to go up there and try to get one."

Additional help from Kendrick Perkins, who had career high playoff night in both points (18) points and rebounds (16). Rajon Rondo added seven points, 13 assists, six rebounds and four steals for the Celts.
For Detroit; the positive outlook is that Chauncey Billups is looking and scoring better. Chauncey Billups had 26 on the night and Richard Hamilton had 25 points for the Pistons. The other advantage for the Pistons is that the series heads back to Detroit for Game 6.

"The good thing about it is we're going home," said Billups, "We've been here before, and we don't like being in this position, but we've fought hard."
Women's Bracket
Serena Williams def Mathilde Johansson 6-2, 7-5
Venus Williams def Selima Sfar 6-2, 6-4.
Jelena Jankovic def. Marina Erakovic 6-2, 7-6
Venus Williams is riding a six game win streak as the 26yr old made her way into the third round yesterday. The eight overall seed in the tournament easily beat Sfar, who was a 241st ranked tournament qualifier.

Younger sister Serena had a bit more of a struggle in her match; but even facing the possibility of heading into a third set, the eight-time Grand Slam champion prevailed. Serena is the only past women's champion competing at Roland Garros, has made it to the third round at 33 of the 34 major championships she's entered during her career.

Jelena Jankovic felt the heat and humidity of the weather and called for a trainer at the game break after holding to lead 3-2 in the second set. Proving her toughness; she played through the pain and squeaked out a second set tiebreaker to move on to the third round.

Versus Seattle on Tuesday Boston Red Sox AL co- leading pitcher Dice K Matzusaka while throwing a warm up pitch; was taken out after the fourth inning due to shoulder pain. Dice K was attempting to gain a 9-0 start on the season since 1971; joining fellow pitcher Josh Beckett this season. Dice K will put that achievement on hold and have an MRI today.

NFL Update:Oh To Be A Fly On The Wall At That Meeting

New Dallas Cowboys cornerback and offender of various crimes Adam Pacman Jones met with NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell [ESPN] last week at the Spring Conference in Atlanta regarding his reinstatement into the NFL. The Dallas Morning News broke that Pacman has not been allowed to step foot on the Cowboys' Valley Ranch facility or take part in any formal team activities. According to the report he is hopeful that will change this upcoming week.

Pacman infamously missed all last season due to various accusations and convictions of felonies. He recently cleared up a $20,000 gambling debt at a Las Vegas casino after pressure from a Vegas district attorney.

Jerry Jones, that crazy billionaire Cowboys owner; and lover of all dramatic players and things, was of course on hand for commentary:

Jerry Jones says he has no time frame for any league decision and would not describe himself as optimistic. He also insists he's staying out of it. "I don't think it's my place to get in here and call them up and say, 'What'd he say? What'd he do? What do you think?'" Jones said.

I find that a little modest Jerry, and you Sir; have never been one to me modest. And what he do? yes, that is the appropriate question for anyone to ask when mentioning Pacman Jones- but not to the NFL commish.

"Cowboys are following orders, having no official interaction with Pacman Jones, not even giving him a playbook. But they are keeping tabs. 'Adam is really working hard and zeroing in on all the things that it takes to be an NFL football player,' Jerry Jones said. 'Relatively speaking he's in good shape -- certainly not ready to play a ballgame but nobody else out here is either. The main thing is he's working hard. I feel that he certainly will take advantage of this opportunity to play with the Cowboys. I think it's going to work.' Providing the commissioner gives him that chance, Jones quickly added."

Jerry Jones the rehabilitator, the giver- I love it.

Pacman has already moved to the Dallas metropolitan area and is clicking with his teammates instantaneously. He made an appearance at tigh end Jason Witten's charity bowling event, worked out with some Cowboys at SMU, and recently was at a party hosted by Deion Sanders.

"I teased him," receiver Terrell Owens said. "We went inside and were playing around on the basketball court, and I asked him if he was ready to play. He said, 'Yeah, but we're not going to no strip clubs this year either.' … Everybody is going to welcome him. "

Pacman has seen the error of his ways..see? no strip clubs. He's just hanging out with TO and partying with Dieon Sanders. This Jerry Jones 12 step program is genius.

Tiger Woods Will Play The US Open Despite Knee Pain: "So You're Sayin There's A Chance"

Although Tiger Woods is still rehabbing his knee after an April 15th surgery; he assures everyone he will be ready to compete in The U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego on June 12.
Woods has been on a two month layoff since having the surgery after the Master's Tournament in Augusta.

"I know what it takes to win a tournament coming back off after having a procedure done, and it is just a matter of being prepared, getting all my practice time in, making sure my shots are how I want them, trying to understand what my misses might be," Woods said.

Wood's had hoped to start back this week at the Memorial Tournament but is still a little gimpy and stiff- but is confident he can be 100% by the Open.

"I wasn't ready," Woods said. "I started my practice basically just recently. So going to Memorial that rusty, it wouldn't have made any sense. I wasn't sharp enough. I didn't hit all my shots I needed to hit yet at home and make sure everything is organized. ... The whole idea is to be ready for the U.S. Open."

So for those PGA Players- you live to try for another PGA tour title; but come June 12th be afraid, be very afraid.

2008 Summer Olympic Games Countdown

August 8th marks the opening ceremonies of this historical little palooza that is coming to the ever so generous nation of China ( I do say a prayer for they're earthquake victims- but Free Tibet and stop aiding genocide in Dafur for God's sakes!).

In order to keep protesters and terrorists against the Chinese Government away from the Games so not to destroy this massive PR campaign China has sunk so much to (heaven forbid to protect the actual SAFETY of Olympic games attendees); tickets will be microchipped as part of a massive security program installation for the Games.
"The intent is to keep potential troublemakers from the 91,000-seat National Stadium as billions watch on TV screens around the world. Along with terrorists, Chinese officials fear protesters might wreck the glitzy ceremonies, unfurling Tibet flags, anti-China banners or even T-shirts adorned with strident messages."

"Tickets for the Aug. 8 opening ceremony are the most expensive of the games — a top price of $720—and many are in the hands of dignitaries and friends."

Selfish? No?

"a move unprecedented for the Olympics, tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies are embedded with a microchip containing the bearer’s photograph, passport details, addresses, e-mail and telephone numbers."

Perhaps this is also in accordance with the goal to prevent people who may possibly disagree with anything the Chinese government does from entering. Perhaps the Chinese Government is attempting to steal your identity and your soul....who knows.

“They should be concentrating on sniffing out the kinds of dangerous stuff rather than worrying about the identify of the people with the tickets,” said Roger Clarke, an Australian security expert.

Who are we kidding Mr. Clarke , there are no dangerous people in China; this thing is gonna go off without a hitch, don't get your panties in a bunch!!!!

As for the competitors themselves; SportsByBrooks is doing God's work by putting an end to the "Ameri-centric coverage of the Olympics on NBC " and all the attention garnered toward hot American Olympic hopefuls; and is now featuring attractive FOREIGN women athletes that will be competing at the games.

Kim Gevaert, the Belgian sprinter is slightly fast apparently; She holds the Belgian record for the 100-meteres with a wind-aided 11.04 seconds.

Morning Glories- Especially For Laker Fans

NBA Playoffs Western Conference Finals
The fat lady is warming up her pipes; the NBA's defending champions are almost finished. The Spurs lost in San Antonio for the first time this postseason. The Lakers began somewhat hot, beginning with a 22-8 run; and dominated the Spurs in second-chance points (26-4) and rebounds (46-37). Kobe Bryant led in points for the Lakers with 28; but the difference makers were the contributions from Lamar Odom, who scored 16 points, eight in the fourth quarter, Pau Gasol had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Vladimir Radmanovic, who added 11 points.
"I just stayed composed. I kept my poise," Odom said. "I just stayed tough, told myself it was a long game."

The Lakers were effective in eliminating Spurs Manu Ginobili offensively and denied him any opportunities in the first half. Ginobili did not make a field goal until six minutes remained in the game, and finished with seven points. Tim Duncan was a poor 10 of 26, and finished with 29 points.

"I was nervous, man," said Kobe Bryant "It is a big step for us,Tonight we came out and did a much, much better job to win in this building in this particular game. It's big for us."

French Open Tennis
Sharapova, the newly crowned number one in the world after the retirement of Justine Henin; had a tiny scare in her opening French Open round 1 match. What was a windy day at Rolland Garros; Sharapova had 17 double-faults and landed just 64 percent of her first serves in the match on center court. In the fifth game of the second set, Sharapova double-faulted three times in a row and appeared obviously frustrated.

Maria was more consistent with her groundstrokes, and took up a strategy of playing long rallies in hopes of hitting a winner or waiting for 103 ranked Rodina to make a mistake. Maria is looking for a win in this French Open to complete the a career first Grand Slam ( all of them) win.

MLB Score of Note
Former Ray Josh Hamilton showed his old team exactly what they were missing; by hitting a grand slam and knocking in 5RBI's, a career high. Hamilton was the former No. 1 overall pick in the draft, but his stint with the Rays was marred by drug addiction and injuries. This season Hamilton is obviously a much different man; his 5RBI's bringing his season total to a major league-leading 58. Josh also has 13 home runs on the season. He is 4-for-6 and has driven in 14 runs with the bases loaded this year.

All this triumph for the 27-year-old outfielder after a terrible 0-for-4 Monday in the first game against the Rays.

"I've never been more frustrated after hitting a grand slam in my life," Hamilton said. "I was having so much trouble picking the ball up. When I made contact, I actually closed my eyes for a spilt-second because I thought (the ball) was going to run on me, that it was going to hit me."

Despite the win last night, The Tampa Bay Rays are still leading in the AL-East.
