Fourth of July: Drink Yourself Smart?

It's fourth of July, and I'm stuck dog- sitting (Jackson and Otis), and making ZERO headway on a paper due tonight by 8pm. What do you do? crack open a bottle of wine and pray for the best. At least the boys are helping get my academic juices flowing....

Roger Federer is in another Wimbledon Finals, for what must be about the 5 millionth of

his career. He beat Marat Safin so handily, I resorted to having to watch Sex and the City reruns to avoid writing this God Forsaken paper. 

Rafael Nadal is currently on Centre Court right now beating up on some poor kid semifinalist who happens to be fellow country man of Borris Becker, despite not knowing each other, they are COUNTRYMAN! 

I wanted to watch 1 good game today, but Nadal makes me weak at the knees I can't possibly

 cheer against him, that and tape delay tells me an upset is impossible. [The Sports Network]

So for the Wimbledon finals we will potentially see Nadal v. Federer and sisters Venus v. Serena Williams. Wait, it seems as if these story lines have been played out before no???

I am surprisingly bored by these finals despite knowing the top of the top players will be facing off. Maybe it's the wine just making me sleepy...

Late To The Party: On Don Imus v. Pacman

On Monday June 23rd, Don Imus was back to his old racially insensitive ways- the target, and an yes he's an easy one, Pacman Jones. Come on Don, hasn't Pacman has been picked on enough?

"During the broadcast, Imus and sports announcer Warner Wolf began discussing Jones, 24, and his troubles off-the-field that resulted in the former West Virginia University star being suspended for the entire 2007 NFL season.

'What color is he?' Imus asked Wolf about Jones.

'African-American,' Wolf answered.

'There you go. Now we know,' deadpanned Imus."

Imus defended himself the next day after a large hullabaloo was made by pretty much everyone with:

“What people should be outraged about is that they arrest blacks for no reason,” Imus said Tuesday. “I mean, there’s no reason to arrest this kid six times. Maybe he did something once, but everyone does something once.”

Pacman, responded in what was an astoundingly mature manner. The Jerry Jones Rehabilitation Program must keep you on a short leash!!!

"Jones told The Dallas Morning News in Tuesday’s editions that he’s upset by Imus’ comments and that he plans to pray for the radio host.

'I’m truly upset about the comments,” Jones said. “Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I’m upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly. I will pray for him.'”

The whole thing has already blown over, but its worthy to note that Pacman is sounding like a new man these days, and I wonder how this will continue to play out off and on the Dallas field.

A Loss In the World Of Sports...

Hold a moment of silence for the beloved University of Georgia mascot, a live bulldog that is on the field for every game, Uga VI. [Ajc.com]

The University of Georgia's pure white English bulldog mascot passed away Friday night after of heart failure and after 8 seasons with the Georgia Football Bulldogs. He was a month shy of his 10th birthday.

Uga VI will apparently have a burial fit for a king. In a private ceremony to be held at the burial site Sanford Stadium.

Uga VI like his predecessors, will be interred in specially-built marble vault built into the side of the south grandstands of the stadium. According to UGA , it is the only school that buries its mascots within the confines of the stadium.

The Rev. Claude McBride, a Baptist preacher and former chaplain for the football team, will officiate. University president Michael Adams will be among those to eulogize the beloved pooch.

"'Every time I go through another one of these it's just as hard,' said Sonny Seiler, a Savannah lawyer whose family has provided all of UGA's mascots since 1956."

Outpouring for UGA VI has been overwhelming- nearly 600 entries in Uga VI's guestbook on ajc.com. Many fans offering condolences to the Seilers and thanking them for their efforts.

"The identity of the dog that shall become Uga VII remains a closely guarded secret. 'That's been taken care of,' Seiler assured. 'Let's get through this first.'"

UGA is my favorite SEC team and I will be tremendously emotional today as you can imagine....Goodbye old friend, your fellow Uga's, Barbaro, and Eight Belles await you at the pearly gates...As I can only hope they will wait for me!

An Unusual Quite Moment To Myself..

So I'm Watching Wimbledon, Venus Williams will 4-3 in her first set.Cute dress on Venus...

Last week Maria Sharapova shrieked like a monkey in heat all the way to a surprising loss at the hands of 154th-ranked Alla Kudryavtseva.

Maria has states prior in a press conference that she was opting not to wear her Swarovski encrusted tennis shoes, nor a distracting skirt or dress but a designer pair of shorts instead.....well this stuff obviously is important enough to require a press conference.
